GIRI Institute is in its foundation stage. Governance therefore begins with accurate institutional status, identifiable responsibility, research independence, transparent methods, visible corrections, and structures that can mature as the work becomes more substantial.

CURRENT STATUS

Stage I — Foundation

GIRI Institute is currently a foundation-stage research and knowledge initiative operating within the broader GIRI organizational structure. It is developing research programs, methodologies, publication systems, governance standards, and institutional infrastructure.

Structure should follow substance.

Research before complexity

Governance should solve real research and accountability needs, not imitate mature institutions prematurely.

Identifiable responsibility

Decisions should have clear responsibility during the foundation period.

Independence requires process

Research independence is protected by rules, disclosures, and review—not by slogans.

Conflicts are disclosed

Relevant commercial, financial, organizational, and personal conflicts should be identified and managed.

Corrections remain visible

The research record should show material changes, withdrawals, and retractions.

Governance matures with research

Boards, councils, committees, and legal structures should develop when the institution has substantive work for them to govern.

RESEARCH INDEPENDENCE

GIRI Institute seeks to preserve the independence of research design, evidence collection, analysis, interpretation, and publication from commercial, political, sponsor, and organizational pressure.

The purpose of research is not to protect a predetermined narrative. It is to improve understanding.

Client status does not determine research scoring.

Payment Neutrality

Commercial payment cannot purchase favorable findings.

Methodological Independence

Methodology cannot be altered to obtain a preferred outcome.

Disclosure

Relevant commercial relationships should be disclosed.

Publication Independence

Negative or inconvenient findings may still be published.

FUNDING

Funding may support the research. It should not determine the answer.

Potential funding sources can include internal support, sponsored research, research contracts, grants, philanthropy, partnerships, publication revenue, data products, methodology licensing, and educational activity. Sponsor roles, restrictions, and relevant relationships should be disclosed.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Conflict architecture.

GIRI uses a developing COI-0 through COI-4 framework so that conflicts can be classified, disclosed, managed, escalated, or judged incompatible with independent research where necessary.

CORRECTIONS & RESEARCH INTEGRITY

The research record should remain auditable.

Administrative Correction

Typographical or metadata correction without substantive research impact.

Minor Research Correction

Limited substantive correction that does not materially alter principal findings.

Material Correction

Correction that affects analysis, interpretation, or important findings.

Withdrawal

Removal from active use when the work should no longer be relied upon in its current form.

Retraction

Formal notice that the work is fundamentally unreliable or invalid while preserving the historical record.

DATA GOVERNANCE

Access should match evidence, privacy, and institutional obligations.

AI GOVERNANCE

AI remains subordinate to verification.

AI can assist research processes, but it must not fabricate sources, invent observations, silently replace expert verification, or create unsupported claims presented as evidence.
